Glossary
What is FIFO (first in, first out)?
FIFO means using older stock before newer stock. In a fridge or dry store, that is the difference between rotating cream that expires tomorrow and opening a new bottle while the old one dies at the back.
It is a stock habit, not a software feature. Labels, clear shelves and disciplined deliveries make FIFO real.
How kitchens actually fail FIFO
New deliveries dumped in front of old stock. Prepped items without dates. Multiple people restocking with no agreed shelf layout.
Training and simple labelling rules beat complex theory. Use-by and prep labels only work if staff can read them under pressure.
Where Complytio helps (and where it does not)
Complytio does not reorganise your walk-in for you. Prep labels and document/training records support the habits FIFO needs. Daily checks can include a stock-rotation prompt if you configure it.
Frequently asked questions
Is FIFO a legal requirement by name?
Law requires safe food and suitable controls. FIFO is a standard practical control for date-sensitive stock, not a magic phrase that replaces your procedures.
