What is a food safety management system?
A food safety management system (FSMS) is the set of procedures, training and records that show how you identify hazards and keep food safe day to day.
In small UK hospitality businesses this often means Safer Food Better Business packs or similar documented procedures — not a corporate ISO binder by default.
Documents vs living system
A printed pack on a shelf is not an FSMS if nobody completes the checks it requires. Digital task completion, exception handling and document control keep the system alive.
Complytio is software for running and storing those records. It is SFBB-aligned in spirit — not a substitute for your legal duties or an official approval.
Frequently asked questions
Is an FSMS the same as HACCP?
HACCP is a structured approach many FSMS are based on. Small businesses may use SFBB-style packs that apply the same principles in simpler language.
