What is Natasha's Law (PPDS)?

Natasha's Law is the common name for UK rules on labelling prepacked for direct sale (PPDS) foods with full ingredients and allergens. It followed the death of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse after an allergic reaction to a baguette.

See allergen matrixView pricing

If you pack food on site before the customer orders it (for example grab-and-go sandwiches), PPDS duties may apply. This glossary is orientation only — confirm current rules for your nation and product types.

What kitchens get wrong

Treating a counter allergen matrix as enough for PPDS packs. Matrices help staff answer questions; PPDS packaging has specific labelling requirements.

Menu changes without updating labels. Specials are a frequent failure point.

How Complytio fits

Complytio’s allergen matrix supports internal knowledge of menu items and the 14 major allergens. It is not a PPDS label printer for legal packaging compliance by itself. Use it alongside your labelling process and legal advice where needed.

Frequently asked questions

Does Complytio make me compliant with Natasha’s Law?+

No tool “makes you compliant.” You must meet labelling rules that apply to your products. Our matrix helps manage allergen data; packaging duties remain yours.
